The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 28/Oct/2022

On Tuesday night (morning?) at 1am, the writing for Chapter 19 was completed!! :D

I hadn’t actually meant to stay up so late, but I was on a serious roll, and I could see the end in sight so I just went with it! I’m a night owl anyway, so it worked out well.

Editing was supposed to come next, but I was way too eager to get started on Chapter 20 so I jumped straight into it on Wednesday and have been hammering through it!

Chapter 20 is gonna be a long one to write. It has a couple of ‘mop up’ scenes at the start which actually have some huge moments in it as well as a major choice concerning a couple of characters depending on which branches your MC chose. Book Three is definitely one for quite a few of the BIG story and character branches starting out.

After those scenes, it’s split scenes for the love interests where there’s quite a bit of emotional impact, especially to a couple of them! Oh guys…these scenes….

I’m going to keep writing today and get to editing tomorrow. There is a ton of editing to do, especially as I still need to get chapters over to SpunkyCat, but now I’m so close to the end I’m just really driven to get all the base writing done and wait to do the editing and things when I can give my full concentration to it.

Next week will be social media days, so I’ll be writing around that. The last of the Spooky Scenarios went up on Patreon this week, and next month will also have more Special Scenarios but this time Cosy Autumnal Romance! I’ll put up the dates and descriptions of those in next Friday’s update after I’ve written them.

Phew, it’s a serious buzz of energy at the moment! I’m anxious, I’m excited, I’m eager… a lot of feelings going on as I really am reaching towards that end point for the writing!! (Chapter 20 is the penultimate chapter!)

On the best friend thing, I'm sure everyone has lots of different opinions but when I was thinking about it, I think a choice to decide the best friend would allow people more freedom than having it triggered by stats. I know for myself if there was a certain best friend that I wanted, I'd constrain myself to choices that I knew increased friend points with them as opposed to letting whatever would come naturally for my MCs happen. It would require us to make certain choices to get the outcome we want instead of being able to experience a variety of the different scenes you've written! In addition, it would make it a lot easier for multiple playthroughs to be able to make a choice as opposed to building up to it, especially since the books are long (this is a good thing!) and HG doesn't have a save system implemented. That's just my two cents!


Also I love Wayhaven and I'm excited for the progress you're making on Book 3!

Yeah, I really think this is the way I’m going to go. The readers definitely seem to think this is the way forward to.

Wayhaven was supposed to be more choise based than stat, and I know I would do the same as you and restrict myself to certain choices to get a certain path, which I REALLY don’t want for this game! I want people to just be able to play how they want.

Definitely have to remember to go with my initial instincts on these kinds of things for the future! :D

This one's for Becca. Where does she live!? I don't recall her ever mentioning if she lives in Wayhaven now or back in the City or in the warehouse? And follow up, what does her apartment look like? Does she have photos of her and the detective up, etc?

Rebecca mostly lives at the facility, but she does still own the family home where the MC grew up and shared with Rook.

She rarely visits it though, just keeps it ticking over with a cleaner and things.

It is full of family photos, most have been turned to face down though.

Hey! I really like how each of the romances feel unique in this game and how they all kind of develop at their own pace. It makes multiple playthroughs feel really fresh and exciting. I'm just curious how you go about planning/developing each relationship and making them all feel unique. Thanks for creating such a wonderful IF! :D

Aah, I’m so glad you’re enjoying that! Having the romances feel unique and progress as they need to is a very important thing in Wayhaven for me!

As for planning out- I have a good general idea of how I want the overall romance to go and how I want them to feel, but not too specific when it comes to the books.

For example, a rather big moment for one of the LIs happens in Book Three, which is much sooner than I’d planned on it happening, but it felt really organic to fit it in in that moment.

So the big moments, I know when and how I want them to go, but sometimes it shifts depending on how the writing actually goes! :D Definitely something I’ve learned with writing a series is really not too plan things to set in stone as it can change soooo much as you write!

hiii, hope everything is well with you both <3 i was just wondering if paranormal investigators/ghost hunters are a problem for the agency and if they have ever accidentally found out about supernaturals!

You know, I hadn’t ever actually thought about this but now I can’t help but think of the hilarity of them almost coming close to finding things and the Agency scurrying around to make things seem fake, LOL!

Oh, the temptation F would have to tease them…my imagination is spinning now, hehe! :D

Are there any hybrid supernaturals out there? I know some supernaturals can turn humans but would they be able to turn others like the ever popular vampire werewolf mix? Maybe with a super low survival rate so they're rare? What about if they try the old fashioned way and have a kid together?

There are hybrids (Elidor is one, for example) but they are extremely rare, and they even more rarely happen by trying to turn an already existing supernatural into another.

  2. It will be just the Book Two save, as that’s what’s up on Hosted Games server. The Book Three demo is up on a different site just for people to be able to play.

The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update 21/Oct/2022

So, Chapter 19 was finished…

Now anyone who knows me or has been following me for a while will instantly know what I’m going to say next, hehe! ;D

Yes, I am now adding more to it! 

Writing for Chapter 19 was done-I was super excited because I was a day ahead, but as I was going through it and making sure I hadn’t missed anything off the plan, etc, I came to this one section and I just realised that—as a player—there was another option at this point as well as a perfect opportunity for stat-based variation to take place too.

I left it, because changing it would be SO much work.

But I just couldn’t leave it. I knew that if I was playing it, then I would want those options in there! And as I’ve said many times, I write Wayhaven because I want to play it like you guys do :D

So yeah…I’ve begun the process of taking it from one neat wrap-up to having 3 variations!

I’m working on it as fast as I can and although it is a lot, it’s very much worth it! I’m really happy with it, and I already know exactly which of my MCs are gonna end up with which variation!

But even with those extra variations added, I should have it properly finished by early next week! I will do some editing next week as well, but I’ll also be moving straight onto Chapter 20—there’s some scenes in that chapter I have been dying to write for sooooo long!!

A short update this week just so as I can get back to it and push through! As we get closer to the end I’m starting to get such intense excitement about you guys finally finding out what’s to come!!!
